One of the Netherlands’ foremost sources of applied research on agriculture and horticulture, Proeftuin Zwaagdijk provides a controlled environment to test the best methods and tools for crop cultivation and protection.

Challenge

Maintaining the optimum conditions to provide relevant and immediate environmental data to a network of over 100 agricultural research centers specialized in crop protection.

Testing data-driven crop protection strategies with sensors

Continuous measurement of temperature, relative humidity and CO2 with a wireless sensor network in greenhouses, cold rooms and a mobile unit on the grounds. Proeftuin Zwaagdijk has 20 storage rooms, 4 modern chicory cells and more than 3000 m² greenhouses and supportive spaces for research and demonstrations. Captured sensory data gives researchers real-time insight on the ZENSIE dashboard, and is easily available for export and further analysis.
