Practical IoT: monitoring storage conditions with sensors

April 05, 2017

With more than 90 years of experience and around 1.500 members, Netherlands-based CNB is not only the leading flower bulb authority in the Netherlands, but also the world’s largest mediator in bulbs, tubers and perennials.

Challenge

Maintaining optimal conditions for the long-term remote storage of flower bulbs.

Long-term remote monitoring in extreme temperatures

CNB uses wireless sensors to monitor tulip bulbs during storage: temperature humidity sensors are placed into sealed enclosures for 9 months at very low temperatures. Sensors give continuous feedback on cold storage conditions, ensuring an optimal environment without manual checks, even in harsh conditions.

Meet the 30MHz Sensor Toolkit

Choose a combination of sensors to capture the metrics you need, and get real-time alerts and analytics from your environment on desktop, mobile or tablet. Get set up without IT involvement. All you need is a wifi connection, and a few moments to deploy.

Optimising storage conditions with sensory data

Here at 30MHz, we’re not exactly quiet about the power of sensor data to transform agriculture. We’ve seen our customers reduce losses from destroyed crops, optimise water and nutrient delivery to maximize yields, and reduce energy costs just days after deployment. Thanks to over 80 customers — most of them in agriculture— we know that ...

Measuring crop-level dew point is not a myth

Ask any grower about his or her experience with dew point and they’ll tell you about the potentially destructive impact, from mildew to Botrytis that moisture can have on crops. But while excessive moisture can potentially destroy a crop, we hear from growers that they aren’t always able to do much to combat its effect. ...

Managing Vapor Pressure Deficit with smart sensing technology

The 30MHz team has certainly been to its fair share of agritech and agriculture conferences this year. We’re not farmers, but we are building technology that serves farmers’ needs. So when we go to these events, we make an effort to listen more than we talk. We recognize that farmers know their businesses better than ...
